STEP 1: PREPARATION
The first step in our polyaspartic garage floor coating process is preparation. Preparation is key to the coating adhering to the concrete and lasting for years to come. We use commercial grade tools to prepare your concrete floor. We use high powered diamond floor grinders and hand grinders to remove the top layer of concrete off your floor. Grinding opens up the concrete, creates a rough porous surface for the polyaspartic coating to bond to.
Once grinding is complete we clean the concrete floor to remove any dust, debris or contaminants that could interfere with adhesion. Next we address any imperfections in the concrete, cracks and pitting. We use specialized fillers to fill these imperfections and make the entire floor level and smooth. This step is crucial in creating a solid foundation for the coating and preventing future problems like peeling or bubbling.
STEP 2: BASE COAT & FLAKES
Now that the concrete floor is prepared we move on to applying the base coat and flakes. The base coat is a critical part of the coating system, it’s the foundation for the flakes and top coat. We mix color into our polyaspartic base coats to match the color of the flake blend. This adds to the aesthetic and ensures a cohesive look.
Once the base coat is down we broadcast the flakes onto the floor. This is a quick process as polyaspartic coatings dry and cure in 15 minutes. The flakes are spread evenly across the surface to create a textured design. The quick cure time of the polyaspartic allows us to apply the top coat within 4-6 hours of the base coat application.
STEP 3: TOP COAT
Once the base coat is cured it’s time to apply the top coat. The top coat is critical to sealing and protecting the floor, durability and resistance to the elements. Before we apply the top coat we scrape and collect any excess flakes off the floor to ensure a smooth surface. This step is crucial to proper adhesion of the top coat so the finished floor is even and seamless.
Next we apply a clear polyaspartic top coat to your floor. This top coat does several things, it seals the coating making it waterproof and provides a layer of protection that’s scratch proof, heat resistant and resistant to chemicals and abrasions. Our top coats are designed to withstand the daily wear and tear of a garage environment. After application you can walk on the top coat within 4-6 hours and move your items back into the garage within 24 hours. However we recommend waiting a full week before driving on the floor to ensure maximum durability.
